DoTA (Defense of The Ancients) is a mod for the game Warcraft 3. Now, I can't really say whether or not it's fun, because I've never played it. But if you want to get a feel for what it's like, I would suggest a game called Heroes of Newerth (HoN.) Basically, it took DoTA and gave it a game of its own. From what I've heard, it's almost identical to DoTA. Another game is League of Lengends (LoL.) While HoN and DoTA are very serious games, LoL is a more noob-friendly version. Keep in mind all of these are still pretty hard to learn. If you want to play LoL or HoN free, I'll give a link in the source. DoTA is free, if you have Warcraft 3.
